Interesting Tale

I slept late last night because I was watching a classic movie by Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey - The Negotiator. I'm kind of tired and laze on my chair while starring the ceiling at the corner of my office. The ceiling reminds me an interesting tale. When I joined the company not long ago, I requested the company to build the training room and a new meeting room. In the mean time, CCTV was installed as well. That was the time I took advantage and asked the technician to pull CAT5 cable to my office. Hehe, they did not look happy though. However, I did the rest including clipping and installing.

While installing the cable, the ceiling board was slightly damage. The ceiling board is only about a 12" x 4'' (since it's corner). I thought it's only a small hole so I did not replace it. You know what happen next. A mighty mouse took advantage to sneak into my office at night. I managed to catch one while he still wondering around in my office. I immediately sealed off the small hole.

Next morning, I found more mouse instruded my office. Seals were removed. Not only that, it took revenge by biting my network cable. Luckily I pulled longer otherwire. The whole thing is worthless. I then change the whole ceiling board. But this time, I use a metal plate instead of the soft ceiling board. The third day. The mouse took revenge again - biting off my network cable again, although they did not manage to get into my office. I was really mad ..... I then took a small tray of RED RICE (given by pest control) to put on my ceiling. Once the mouse take the RED RICE, it wll die of thurst. Since then, no more disturbance.

Nokia Maps - Finally FREE!

Most smarphones including PDA phone can install Google Maps for free. You can search places to go as long as you have data connection. However, Google Maps does not offer turn-by-turn navigation for smartphones. It is only available for Android (TM) - powered mobile sets. To date, there is no free GPS navigation for free. Usually we have to pay one-off and get one year free map download. The wait is finally over for those who own a Nokia phone with GPS. Nokia Maps is now free FOREVER! Yes, it's official. So don't wait folks, visit Nokia now and download the latest version for your Nokia Phone with GPS.

Who say Malaysian has no buying power?

It's JCard Day (Jusco Card Members Day) at Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang yesterday. I was there with my wife and my daugther to buy my second baby neccessities. We remembered when JCard day is held at Bukit Tinggi with 5000 parking spaces, the parking is still not enough for the shoppers. So we wondered what's going to happen for a smaller Jusco like Bukit Raja. The difference between normal sales and JCard Day is that every purchase of RM100 at Jusco, you get RM10 Jusco voucher. Moreover, they topped up 10-20% discount on top of 50-70% items, i.e. 50%+10% or 70%+10% for example. Moreover, retailers other than Jusco joins to discount their items. Basically the whole shopping centre is having sales 10%-70%.

We actually went one day before to make booking for items we need. So we just need to collect and pay on the real day (yesterday). We found the crowd was ok only so we thought it's going to be poor this time. The next day, we went after work at about 6pm. Parking was the first thing to worry but we managed to get one wihtin minutes. The crowd was moderate. We guessed we went at the right time because most people are having their dinner. Moreover, Jusco has prepared more counters for payment. We colleced our things and paid. The line was short and we've done it quick.

1-2 hours later, more crowds are coming and it's gigantic. Their cash was like no limit until the trolley is damage due to overload. It may not be norm to some, but I saw shoppers buying 15-20 bags of Fab laundry powder, 5-10 bottles of 5L Dynamo Liquid. But honestly, things are very cheap yesterday.

We left at about 8pm and we were still seeing cars queuing from the entrance to the highway at the far back. So you see, who say Malaysian has no buying power.

Prices of PC likely to rise in YR10

A big applause to the semiconductor players because we are going to pay more for our PCs. The price of PCs are likely to soar later this year.

Remember supply and demand curve. During the recession in previour years, supply was reduced by manufacturers and the demand is poor which eventually brought down the price per unit. Therefore it is led to shortage in YR10. Moreover, the transition from DDR2 to DDR3 RAM memory chips is the main reason behind that adds 23% more cost to the PCs. Memory is not alone, other components are expecting to rise from 2.3% while LCD panel price may be tagged 20% more.

It is a norm that increased price/cost is passed on to the consumers, but unlikely this much and end product keeps getting cheaper nowadays. It can be seen the recession may be ended for the manufacturers, but now it may be the time for the consumer to feel the pinch.

Last Sunday, me and my wife was waiting to watch Yee Chung series - The Adjuster. We saw preview of a beauty products show. It was introducing the "New York Skin Solutions". Then I told my wife, "it seems to me they are using name of a place for their beauty product. We also have "London Weight Management". Later, my wife said, "not only that, we also have beauty product that uses China. I replied, "where got!" Then she said, "Yun Nam Hair Care". Oh yeah, she's right. Haha........

DDIY: Port-Replicator / Book Rak

Welcome to Donny first Post of DDIY - Donny DIY.

As we know a port-replicator is always pricey. It may cost around RM500 - 700. A good one may even price above RM1000. Here with DDIY, you can save hundreds of dollar. All you need is a magazine rack, dish rack and screws from dish rack. The required tools are screw driver, NT cutter, plyer and sand paper. If you have a vice, it will be very handy. You can get the magazine rack from a book store or Jusco between RM7.90 to RM29.90. I bought one at Jusco for RM10.90 just because it is a good size and the wood quality is better compare to others. Next, I bought a dish rack from Hot Market at Klang Parade at RM10. You can easily find them at 688 or budget store in Kuching.

I simply change the magazine rack hinge from the middle wood frame to near end of wood frame. You need not drill holes again because there are holes already for the horizontal round wood stick. The middle wood frame hole will be used again for the elbow support.

Remove the legs of the dish rack. Use a blade to remove the side wall of the dish rack and leave one longer width wall for book support or laptop support. Use sand paper to remove the sharp edges. Install dish rack on the frame using screws. Bend the stanless steel leg (from the dish plate rack) into an elbow support as seen in the image. Install the support at the middle holes of the frame. Wala, you now have a DDIY port replicator or a book rack; build merely at around RM20. I have tested using my laptop for more than a year and I am still using it. It is strong and cheap to build. What's more! I hooked up a temperature reading at the bottom of my laptop while it was tilted. It was found the cooling was effective. Believe it!

I just recevied one order. Hence, I may include the photo of step by step how to build the rack in the future. Till then, Happy DIY.

Boost Juice @ KLCC Malaysia

One of our favourite drinks in Austrailia will be no doubt the Boost Juice. We often thought of it whenever we bought a smoothie in Malaysia. Later, there came the Juice works which was the closest to Boost Juice. But the day has come to the end.

Boost Juice Bar is finally landed here in Malaysia. It is located on 2nd Floor Centre Court at Suria KLCC. We odered a medium All Berry Bang which cost RM11 incl. Tax. This really brought our memory back in Australia. Mmmm, boosty licious....

All About Rynn Concert 2009

Me, Rita, Rachel, Molly, Chon, Ethel and Clare attendeded Rynn Lim Yee Chung Concert at Arena of Stars, Genting; on 12 Dec 2009. Yee Chung gave me 6 VVIP tickets. The seats are very near to the stage. Hence, I got a good location to capture some nice photos.

It was a great event and we all enjoyed the music. Even my daugther Rachel was enjoying the concert with the whistle.
